These four words came up in my heart this morning. These are nouns that sound similar in English, and each has the connotation of different kinds of action, or inaction.
“People can be divided into three groups: Those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who wonder what happened.” [attributed to either Nicholas Murray Butler or John W. Newburn, per Walter W. Krijthe, on http://uk.answers.yahoo.com.]Quakers are those who are sitting on the sidelines, wondering what’s happening, or are fearful of what’s taking place or about to take place. People without God’s revelation knowledge are in this category. Pastor Jeremy Pearsons spoke about this, this past Sunday morning. See the previous post for more details on that message.
Makers are those who create, who innovate, who invent, who produce. Makers and shakers are closely related, and they can have a beneficially disruptive effect in their environments. Prizes such as the Nobel and the Pulitzer, and the Grammy and Academy awards, are routinely given to those persons and organizations recognized for their valuable contributions to society. We make our world a better place, as salt and light.
Wakers are those who arouse others from sleep or death, who challenge them to shake off their lethargy and adopt new ways of doing things. Spiritual wakers are intercessors and those equipped by God to raise the dead, naturally and spiritually. We believe that what Jesus did and commissioned His disciples to do, we can and shall do, walking in step with the Spirit in faith and love.
“While we may choose to walk daily in the will of God, we must also walk in His light. For in the light we not only see but hear. So, choose not to take yesterday’s manna for today; walk in the light.” — Sharri A. Dilworth Newberry
